sugarplum fairy and femme fatale

Yesterday, as many of you know, the two major fashion houses, Giorgio Armani and Christian Dior, showed off their Fall 2008 Couture Collections. And I think many will agree with me that it was no disappointment. I feel slightly sorry for the designers Alexis Mabille and Anne Valérie Hash, who showed their couture collections the same day as the two attention grabbers. Talk about pulling the shortest straws.

Armani's well-tailored pieces impressed me yet again in this couture collection. It is not difficult to see that probably a lot of blood, sweat and tears have been put into making these creations close to perfect. Looking through the collection, I got a strong feeling of masculinity and femininity mixed together, and the roaring 20s blended with the minimalistic style from the 90s. It seems like the Armani muse has been a strong, intelligent and mysterious woman who oozes self-confidence and a slight element of danger.

I loved all the beautiful pastel colours John Galliano used for the Dior Couture collection. A lot of black and white was used in this collection too, but still it was the soft baby blue, the baby pink, the pistachio etc. dresses that caught most of my attention. As well as the colours, the materials also give a reference to the sugarplum fairies and princesses in the most fascinating fairy tales. Even though, at first glance, the creations seem sweet and innocent, you can see that Galliano has added his "naughty" touches such as the patent belts and the sheer fabrics.

So, I'd like to know which of these two Fall 2008 Couture Collections do you like best? Are you a sweet sugarplum fairy a la Dior? Or are you a mysterious femme fatale a la Armani?
